Dr. Stephen R. Marquardt DX & TX EXPERIENCE with DR. LAN SU

A short time ago I had pain and swelling in my mouth which was so severe, I could not eat and hardly talk. The symptoms were almost unnoticeable when they started about a month ago, but had gotten worse over the next several weeks and they were so bad I could not believe it. I had seen several dentists and quite a few oral and maxillofacial surgeons (specialists in the areas of the mouth and jaws) over that month, but no one could be of help.

I saw only the best doctors, because I, myself, am a retired oral & maxillofacial surgeon. Having been in practice for over 35 years, I have seen just about everything, and I thought I was pretty good. However when this came along, neither I nor any of even the best doctors had any answer as to what the diagnosis was, or possible treatments might be.

With the symptoms becoming worse by the day, I became, as one might expect from any patient, pretty concerned (actually somewhat frantic).

During my years of practice I have worked with and consulted with many other doctor specialists in quite a few different fields. For exceedingly difficult problems, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon often will consult with specialists in the fields of Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine and Oro-facial Pain. To be a specialist in any one of these fields requires that you first become a doctor and then spend years of extended education beyond that.

To be trained all three of these specialties, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine and Oro-facial Pain, is an extraordinary accomplishment, AND is extremely rare.

As I was discussing my problem with some other medical specialists, several mentioned that there was now an Oral Pathologist in the area who was trained in all three of these fields. Her name was Dr. Lan Su, and she was reported to be extremely gifted in her field.

When I heard that, I couldn't get to a phone fast enough – maybe she could help. I called Dr. Su's office and they were extremely kind, making an appointment for me right away. At home I looked up Dr. Su on the internet, as well as visited her website. I was impressed with her credentials, training and experience.

When I arrived at the office, on the day of the appointment, I walked into a pleasant and comfortable waiting room (nothing like the usual doctor's office – thank goodness).

I was shortly greeted by a nurse. She introduced herself, welcomed me to their office and asked a few short questions about my symptoms. I filled out the usual forms and then promptly was shown to an examining room. After a few minutes, Dr. Su came in and introduced herself. She was very courteous, likable and professional from the start.

We talked comfortably and unrushed, for what seemed just a few minutes – but it was about 45min because I remember that she went into so much depth regarding my symptoms and history.

She then performed a meticulous examination of my head, neck, face, mouth and throat. After making her notes in my chart she turned around and explained exactly what was going on. The actual problem was complex and extraordinary, but she explained it so simply that it made all the sense in the world.

I thought, "This woman, This Doctor, is amazing". In Oral Pathology I had never seen anything like it.

She wrote a couple of prescriptions, gave me a list of do's and don'ts, asked if I had any questions, and then took me to the front desk where the nurse made me a follow-up appointment. I went home, began taking the prescribed medications and following Dr. Su's instructions. By the next day I felt quite a bit better, and within 5 days the symptoms were essentially gone. I was overwhelmed at how knowledgeable, smooth, and well spoken she had been. Never have I seen a better bedside/chair side manner. She was supportive and kind in every aspect of her treatment.

During each and every one of my follow-up appointments, my experience was the same. The care and kindness given by Dr. Su and her office was exemplary.

How many "stars" would I give her from "1" to "5" stars? I WOULD GIVE HER "15 STARS"
